Established in 2013 as a specialist mortgage lender, Oak Capital is a Funds Manager and mid-tier non-bank lender. Specialising in lending to SME clients secured by real estate assets.
Since inception we have lent to hundreds of Australian borrowers to assist with their business finance needs. Providing Residential and Commercial mortgages to business borrowers Australia wide whilst providing unique opportunities for its investors by offering property secured investments.
Oak Capital operates two Contributory Mortgage Funds targeting both Retail and Sophisticated Investors.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer Stephen Mitchell is highly respected in the mortgage industry and is the face of Oak Capital. Since the inception of Oak in 2013, Stephen has been heavily responsible for the raising of Investor capital in the business, no easy feat for a new mortgage fund in a post GFC environment. His ability to build strong relationships with new Investors stems from the values of Oak and the way he deals with each and every investor – Transparency, Integrity and Security.
As Chief Executive, Stephen oversees the group operations from its Head Office in Melbourne, working closely with the Board to ensure the fund’s growth is controlled and the safeguards in place are monitored to ensure capital safety.
Stephen is no newcomer to the industry; he has been involved in the Australian Mortgage Lending Market since 2003 and was previously nominated as a Finalist for Top Non-Conforming Brokers in Australia. Stephens extensive experience and knowledge has helped him instil Oak Capital’s philosophy of investment and lending.
Since the inception of Oak back in 2013 till the end of 2020, alongside Oak Stephen was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Resicom (established in 2005). Resicom specialised in the Second Tier & Private Lending sector (with clients and loan types that are outside the standard banking criteria). With more than 2000 brokers across Australia serviced by Resicom’s near 20 staff, through its position on numerous national aggregation panels and as one of the country’s most successful Mortgage Management firms, it become a full subsidiary of Oak Capital in 2020 when Stephen acquired full control of the Group. Stephens knowledge of the market is second to none and holds him in good stead for his role in Oak.
Prior to founding Resicom, in 2003 Stephen worked as a Broker Sales Representative and Senior Underwriter with La Trobe Financial. He is a fully qualiﬁed Financial Planner – holding a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) (AAMC 2011), Diploma of Mortgage Lending (FINSIA 2007), Certiﬁcate IV in Financial Services/Mortgage Broking (TAFE NSW 2008) and is a long-standing member of the Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia. Stephen generally attends Harvard Business School in Boston annually and has so far completed ‘Changing the Game: Negotiation and Competitive Decision-Making’ and ‘Authentic Leader Development’.
HEAD OF BUSINESS & RISK
Craig Robertson is one of the mortgage industry’s old guard. Immensely well respected by industry insiders, he brings over three decades of experience to Oak Capital’s leadership team. In his time in the industry he has worked almost every facet, accruing a vault of knowledge in mortgage credit, sales and distribution, account management and compliance. In the past he has held several key roles for major lenders like NAB and LaTrobe Financial, including senior roles in Credit and Arrears, National Head of Sales, as well as being on Lending and Credit Committees.
As Head of Business and Risk at Oak Capital Craig’s primary focus is on arrears and compliance, though he oversees all facets of the business regarding risk and any commercial relationship or acquisition opportunities.
Prior to joining Oak Capital, Craig was Chief Operating Office at Resicom, managing the distribution team in providing quick and reliable finance options for specialist and commercial transactions. He was also responsible for establishing Resicoms Risk and Audit Committee (RAC) to ensure the business effectively navigated the ever-changing regulatory landscape, as well as leading the search for business opportunities with key stakeholders.
Craig is a fully qualified Financial Planner – holding a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) (AAMC 2010) with a subsequent Diploma of Financial Services (Finance / Mortgage Broking Management) (AAMC 2010).
HEAD OF LENDING & INVESTMENT
Lilly holds the position of Head of Lending & Investment. Having been with Oak since close to its inception, she has grown and evolved with the business over the years, and offers a wealth of knowledge.
Lilly oversees several departments across the company, with the objective to improve operational performance by developing processes and strategies to enhance department efficiency, while mitigating risk. She is responsible for the implementation, management and coordination of procedures, data, internal systems and documents in relation to both lending, investment and general brand promotion.
With a diverse skill set and experience in the mortgage lending market, Lilly works closely with all other department heads, as well as the CEO, to ensure smooth internal and external relationships with key stakeholders and associates are maintained at all times.
Priding herself on her dedication and work ethic, Lilly both encourages and expects her team to constantly bring their best, while also pushing them to explore personal and professional growth opportunities. Lilly has a broad spectrum of knowledge and abilities, while continuously seeking to grow her professional development, expanding her knowledge in the finance market and industry.
HEAD OF PEOPLE AND CULTURE
Janai joined Oak Capital in 2017 and has more than 8 years’ experience in the specialist lending market.
Janai is Oak Capital’s Head of People and Culture. She brings with her experience and passion in helping organisations and leaders manage their people.
Janai ensures the health and wellbeing of the team at Oak Capital. Her primary focus is on the recruitment, training, performance and development of the staff, as well maintaining a healthy and positive culture that encourages growth. She is passionate about the organisation, structure, and above all the people of Oak Capital, and looks to build and maintain strong internal partnerships to ensure the company thrives. She ensures all team members are motivated, encouraged and instils in them the very essence of our mission statement and values.
Prior to joining Oak Capital, Janai was General Manager at Resicom, overseeing the day to day leadership and general management, as well as many of the responsibilities she shares at Oak. She was responsible for the development and execution of all Resicom’s employee programs and processes, including payroll, account management, information systems, performance management, incentivisation and career development. She also oversaw all Operational Risk and Compliance and was a member of the Risk and Audit Committee.
Janai holds a Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking Services and is known for her tireless devotion and work ethic combined with a great understanding of how to provide excellent service.
HEAD OF DISTRIBUTION
Nick joined Oak Capital as our Head of Distribution in 2020, bringing with him over a decade of sales and leadership experience with some of the largest and most well-known financial institutions in Australia.
As our sales leader, Nick is extremely passionate about driving business growth and success. His forward-thinking approach embraces new technology and his growth plan is heavily driven by continuous, metric-driven review and process improvement. Nick is a strong believer in adopting technology, and part of his focus at Oak is the implementation of cloud-based CRM software and analytics data to effectively track, measure and lower lead acquisition cost, whilst increasing ROI. He ensures his team are enthusiastic and motivated to succeed and believes strongly in personal accountability, team empowerment, and recognition for high performance.
Nick’s final role before joining Oak Capital was State Strategic Partnerships Manager for PLAN Australia, where he led and managed the relationships with PLAN’s largest and most complex and diverse broking businesses in Victoria, winning a number of awards during his time with the well-known and respected Aggregator.
Having experience and proven capability across residential and commercial lending, third-party distribution and broker aggregation services, as well as key account management and retail banking has afforded Nick a unique lens and skill set in market and he is a welcome addition to the Oak Capital team.
Geoff Gray commenced with Oak Capital back in 2018 as our Financial Controller and is responsible for leading and developing the finance operations and reporting functions of the business.
He brings a wealth of experience and a diverse range of skills to the team, having previously served in the financial services industry with ASX listed, Centrepoint Alliance for 9-years.
Trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (CA), Geoff developed his craft in Business Services and Insolvency roles early in his career in Melbourne and London, before settling on the Gold Coast in 2004.
He thrives on following a “continual learning and development” motto and enjoys sharing his finance know-how with the team and partnering with business leaders to actively contribute to the success of the business.
Sidney (Sid) joined the Oak Capital team after previously working for some of Australia’s leading companies in finance, including other mortgage funds. Sidney comes to Oak Capital well regarded among his peers in the industry
Holding a Bachelor of Commerce & Associate CPA (B.Com, ASA) culminating with over 13 years finance experience, Sid’s expertise is invaluable relating to Accounts, Compliance, Asset Management & Analysis Research.
Sid works tirelessly in assisting the directors assess loan applications on a technical level, heavily assessing the assets being used as security. Sid’s detailed knowledge and experience in finance coupled with his accounting background ensures detailed and diligent research is completed when assessing the value and viability of an asset.
